“The ‘wave’ sound—spaced-out, experimental trap of Plastician’s Terrorhythm label is a broad church, but most of what’s inside tends to be quite “floaty.”
This debut EP from Canadian
Jon Yedgarov, on the other hand, is a whole lot more driving. The pitched-down vocals and trance-style arpeggiations are familiar, but he distorts and compresses things, grime style, so they rub and push against you instead of gliding around in zero-gravity, like so many releases in this genre. It’s a whole lot of fizzy fun.”

“Canadian producer Yedgar offers up his debut EP for Plastician’s genre-blurring, next-gen talent hub, Terrorhythm, with five tracks of pure shimmer. Everything feels bright, airy and future proof as show-stealing opener ‘Mythic’ — a sugary, full-blooded collaboration with wave pioneer, Sorsari — testifies. There’s room for clever use of pitched-up, bubblegum vocals on buggy, system-rattler ‘The Time Has Come’ and spiralling highs on the trance-inflected, tempered euphoria of ‘So Lost’, with title-track ‘Life Cycle’ continuing the same heady, out-of-body melody rush apace. Final cut, ‘Set You Free’, samples the chorus of N’Trance’s dance classic of the same name, only pitched down, looped and set against its own syrupy, saccharine-doused synth patchwork. Mega!”

“Since their inception, the Terroryhthm releases we have had the pleasure of seeing land in the store have always inspired an uplifting, ethereal energy, a theme that Yedgar gladly continues with this four track expanse. Kicking off with 'Mythic' alongside Sorsari, we are greeted by a wash of beautiful pad structures and sweeping subs below, closely followed by the more grimey melodies and choppy drum work of 'The Time Has Come' and the ascending arpeggios of 'So Lost'. The vibes continue with their incredibly harmonic approach with the chiming leads and crunchy percussive reverberations of 'Life Cycle' before finishing up with 'Set You Free', a big room, wave-emulating floor filler, stuffed full of good energy.”

“… When it comes to the comeback of legends, there’s always the concern that what’s coming new won’t be able to hold the candle to the hype. But the choice to release Yedgar and his ‘Don’t Look Back’ turned out to be spot on. Indeed, the title proves more than apt for this particular release. An explicit invitation not to keep our eyes fixed on the past but instead to look to new horizons. The Canadian producer delivered a gem of a tune that, no surprise, perfectly embodies what I always labeled as the “wavemob sound” (what many also call OG wave). ‘Don’t Look Back’ fits so well inside Kareful’s technical definition of wave that I don’t feel the need to add anything else on this side. Just one thing, mind the low frequencies.”
